Day in Colmar

Wednesday 11th April

Back to the sunshine today!  We decided we would catch the train from Turckheim station - just along the road - to Colmar.
Turckheim Station

It's been a few years since we were there last, so it was really good to explore with our friends this time.

The Alsace love to celebrate Easter/Spring with decorations all over the towns and villages.  In Colmar, trees are hung with different coloured decorations, wooden bridges span the narrow canals with model chicks, rabbits, flowers, storks on nests etc.

Shops have imaginative displays, there are pots of flowers everywhere, fountains are decorated and we walked through some of the squares with artisan market stalls.  We enjoyed lunch, sampling local specialities too.

 A really grand day out.

The day wasn't over yet, though.  After a light tea we had another little walk around Turckheim, this time following the ramparts and solving clues to a geocache.  We abandoned this when the last one was steeply up through the vineyards, though.

We've decided that tomorrow will be the day we say au revoir to Jacki and Philip, Valerie and Martin.  They are staying a few more days here, but we will be setting off to Italy, via Switzerland.
