Deiva Marina to Torre del Lago Puccini

Saturday 21st April

After all that exercise yesterday, we stayed around Deiva Marina today, visiting the market - I bought a bag - walking along the seafront, having a paddle - not particularly comfortable as the beach is little stones and not sand - and having a lovely lunch at a restaurant overlooking the sea and spending the rest of the afternoon on our shady pitch.

Our van is furthest right

We did wander down to the river crossing again, this time with crocs so we could have a very refreshing and comfortable paddle for a while.

Sunday 22nd April

We moved on a bit further south today and are now staying at Camping Bosco Verde at Torre del Lago Puccini.  This is just north of Pisa and we plan to visit there by train tomorrow.  Today we just cycled into the town to check out the station - that wasn't too helpful as the building was locked and the ticket machine on the platform wasn't working, so we hope for more success in the morning - and carrying on on the bikes to the Lago di Massaciuccoli.

A useful bit of information from our Eyewitness Guide "The composer Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) lived here beside the lake to indulge his passion for shooting waterfowl.  He and his wife are buried in the Museo Villa Puccini, in the mausoleum between the piano room and the gun room where he kept his rifle ("my second favourite instrument")."  Now, fortunately, the lake is a nature reserve (plenty of ducks to prove it)!
