Deiva Marina/The Cinque Terre

Thursday 19th April

We moved down the coast a bit this morning and settled in at Camping Valdeiva, just up the valley from Deiva Marina.  Over the river to the right of the photo.

We spent the afternoon relaxing and taking a short walk down the valley beside the river.   The GPS showed a river crossing, but we didn't have the right footwear .....

Friday 20th April

Today we took the free campsite minibus down to Deiva Marina station and after changing trains and buying special tickets for the Cinque Terre at Levanto, we got off at the middle of the 5 villages - Corniglia.  From the station down at sea level, we climbed the steep steps to the village,
then continued on the trail - looking back to Corniglia - through olive groves,

up and down numerous stone steps,
with beautiful views all the way......
till we could see Vernazza, way down below.
As we got closer, there were a couple of bars perched on the edge of the hillside, so we stopped for iced drinks and a cool off in the shade.  This is the view from the little bar......
.... and this, down to the sparkling clear waters of the Med.
At last we were approaching the village and its station - most of which is underneath these houses.

The path had been fairly busy with walkers in both directions, but we were amazed at how crowded the little village was when we reached it.  The special train ticket means you can hop from village to village without doing the walk, but we can only imagine what it must be like in high summer.

We are now having a very chilled out evening, following another grand, but very hot, day.
